Makeup Mistakes Mature Women Make With Makeup And How To Correct Them.

After over 30 years in the beauty industry, I have seen my share of makeup mistakes made by women of all ages. The majority of mistakes come from my generation however, the mature women. Typically this age group has 2 ways of thinking. MORE makeup will make me look younger or NO makeup will make me look younger. Both of these mindsets are incorrect. Let's face it we need SOME makeup, if nothing more, then to even out our skin tone. However piling it on is not the answer either.

First and foremost, skincare, skincare, skincare is the answer. And skincare created specifically for mature skin is ideal.  Check out, a complete line of skincare products created for mature skin. It’s a simple line of products and the price point can’t be beat.

Here are a few tips for letting go of some of those mistakes that actually age us.

1. Wearing too much foundation will clog your pores and settle into fine lines and wrinkles. Instead, try lightweight foundations that use light diffusing pigments. If you tend to be dry make sure to exfoliate 2-3 times a week. This ensures your skincare is penetrating the skin and working effectively for you.

2. Using too much concealer under the eyes. The skin under your eyes is thin and delicate. It may contain fine lines and wrinkles. Use a lightweight concealer with a peach tone to help illuminate darkness and not emphasis lines.

3. Choosing a lip color that is too dark. I know we have our favorite colors but as we age our lips get smaller and a dark lipstick only emphasizes that. Instead use brighter colors like peaches, pinks and neutrals. Use a lip liner in the same color of your lipstick and line after applying the color.

4. Finishing with powder. I am a firm believer in powders however a full coverage powder over a liquid foundation is not the best choice. Instead use a translucent powder or one that is very sheer.

5. Black eyeliner. I am a fan of black eyeliner on the upper lid. It gives the appearance of a fuller lash line. However on the bottom lashline a charcoal grey or brown gives a softer look to the eye. A tip: once you apply the liner on the lower lash, softly go over it with an eyeliner brush. This softens the look of liner.

6. Not using a blush. The older you get the less color you have in your cheeks. Not wearing a blush or even a bronzer ages you quite drastically. You want the color of youth so apply a little bit of blush on the apples of your cheeks. The most natural place for blush.

7. Eyebrow pencil that is too dark. Get rid of the black brow pencil and go with a warm brown. This works for almost any skin tone.

If you are guilty of any one of these mistakes. Don’t beat yourself up. Try something new instead. As always I would love to hear from you. Contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with any questions or concerns.
